Details for 2017 Annual Reunion of Sultana Descendants and Friends – Franklin, Tennessee, April 21-22

Hello Everyone!
The day has arrived that I am sending you a list of activities, with some short descriptions, and costs for the upcoming Sultana reunion on Friday and Saturday, April 21st and 22nd, at Franklin, TN!

In a later message, I will give you more details about each reunion activity/event.

I’m guessing that most are not that familiar with the terrific CW battle fought at Franklin late in the war on November 30, 1864, with a huge loss of life for the attacking Confederate forces under commander Gen. John Bell Hood.  You should be able to find a great deal of information on-line, including web sites of local CW preservation organizations such as Save the Franklin Battlefield (STBF) or The Battle of Franklin Trust.

Also, since the Civil War Trust has been involved in several important preservation projects there over the last decade or so, you will find a variety of information on their web site.

Below is the list of activities we will participate in during the reunion weekend Read More…

Sultana Reunion 2017-Franklin, Tennessee Reunion Accommodations

I have booked 20 rooms at the Best Western in Franklin, 1308 Murfreesboro Road, 37064, for the 2017 Sultana reunion! To make reservations, call the motel at 615-790-0570 and ask for rooms under the “Sultana Association”. The rooms have been recently renovated.
It’s a challenge to find a moderately priced motel that has a meeting room large enough to hold about 70 people, but this one does! Our Friday night talks will be held in the motel’s meeting room. I already have 3 good speakers lined up!

2016 Sultana Reunion will be held in Knoxville, TN

It’s time to notify everyone that the 2016 Sultana Reunion will be here in Knoxville, TN! The dates are Friday and Saturday, April 22nd and 23rd. Be sure to mark your calendars!

Please click here to send me an email with any questions and to reserve your spot.

For those who don’t know, our reunions for descendants and friends had it’s first reunion, informally, at the beautiful Sultana monument in South Knox County in 1987 followed by our first formal reunion in 1988, 28 reunions ago!

We then met in Knoxville for the first 14 years before holding reunions at sites related to the Sultana story. Our first “away” reunion was in Vicksburg, MS, our first of 3 eventual reunions at that location. Some other cities where we held our annual gatherings are Memphis, Chattanooga, and Franklin in Tennessee; Mansfield and Cincinnati in Ohio; Athens, AL; and, of course, in Marion, AR, this year.
